Monday 23 April marks the 25th anniversary of the ZX Spectrum! It was my first programmable computer. It had a 3.54Mhz Zilog Z80A microprocessor with only16Kbytes or RAM and only16Kbytes or ROM. Tha’s right, there was a time when the amount of ROM was part of the computer’s specs. After a few months, I ordered the chips for expanding the RAM to a mind-boggling 48Kbytes and I felt like I finally could get the Lisp environment to work at full speed. Yup, there was also a Prolog environment. It was the time of the ’software houses’, the most important for that time was Melbourne House. Happy birthday, Spectrum. I owe you my first experience in programming and you will always have a special place in my RAM.
