Here is a list of some of my favorite websites in terms of design and usability:
1) Apple.com - year over year one of the most navigable and pleasant UIs ever made.
2) NYtimes.com – the most recent redesign has been absolutely superb both above and below the fold.
3) Best use of Flash ever award goes to ArturoBrachetti.com One more great reason to feel proud of being Italian
– BTW I can’t stand the Sopranos.
4) Best ecommerce site award goes to BananaRepublic.com . A rare example of when the web version of a catalog far surpasses the print version. I particularly like the “Quick Look” feature activated by rolling over any of the items on sale. See it in action.
5) I like to get weather information from AccuWeather.com Despite being cluttered, it actually provides a wealth of information about weather that is not found elsewhere. I also like that I can get as much granularity as I want, from hour-by-hour to 15-days forecast. Also great is the AccuPOP™ – Probability of Precipitation, available in 3-hours chunks.
6) The Palme d’Or for online banking goes to Bankofamerica.com. Unsurpassed by anything else that I have seen so far.
7) I am not too crazy about any of the travel websites, but I do like Travelocity.com search form because it offers a choice of Exact dates,
+/- 1 to 3 days, and Flexible dates.
Best of all, I like my Opera web browser because it offers a wealth of useful features unmatched by any other browser, that’s right not even Safari or Firefox, from Thumbnail preview to SpeedDial to integrated BitTorrent support. Did I mentions that is fast as hell ?
