iPhone Development at ETech 08

March 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

This morning I started with Nate True’s tutorial on “iPhone Software Development: Past, Present, Future“. His slides are (temporarily) availble at http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/presentation.pdf . The presentation is about open source iPhone development tools. Wait a minute, Apple is about to come up with its official iPhone SDK, right? Right, but Nate thinks that Apple will not make it a really open market for iPhone apps and rather will try to control which apps go on iTunes for distribution. Most is this will be understood in the next few days. Until then, any developer can save time building iPhone (and iPod Touch) apps using open source tools because most likely the apps will be compatible with the Apple SDK. Apps built with open source tools can only run on jailbroken devices. Noteworthy: iPhone Dev Docs
